Rates charged by licensed bail bondsmen in Connecticut are set and mandated by the State of Connecticut Department of Insurance. Failure by bail bondsmen to collect these mandated rates is a violation of Connecticut General Statute 38a-825.
The mandated rates are as follows:
- Any bail bond amount $5000 and under requires a 10% premium collection.
- Every dollar after the first $5000 requires a 7% premium collection.
- Example: A $5000 bail bond posting in Connecticut requires a $500 premium collection.
- Example: A $10,000 bail bond posted in the State of Connecticut requires an $850 premium collection by law.
